Gamdom comes back online after its hot-wallet breach

Gamdom returned at 00:34 UTC on October 16 after more than two days offline following the October 13 breach of its hot wallets. Its relaunch post offered every player compensation bonuses: a 20% deposit bonus for existing users, restarted reload bonuses, two $45,000 daily competitions and a $50,000 giveaway. The post didn't explain why founder Felix Roemer's "just over $3m" loss figure is lower than an on-chain researcher's estimate of about $4.2 million, or name the attacker, and Gamdom's claim that user funds are safe still hasn't been independently verified. Philippine central bank cuts bank deposits into Coins.ph over gambling links

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has stopped bank and e-wallet cash-ins to Coins.ph, the country's largest crypto exchange, which CoinDesk's sources tie to alleged dealings with offshore gambling firms. Coins.ph says it doesn't knowingly serve offshore gambling operators and that user funds are safe; cash-outs and crypto trading still work, and neither side has given a date for cash-ins to return. Players in the Philippines who fund crypto casino accounts through peso on-ramps should expect more friction. Source: FairGambling

Stake wins a right to apply for a New Zealand online casino license

New Zealand's Department of Internal Affairs auctioned rights to apply for its 15 online casino licenses at NZ$15 million each, and Stake won one of them; the auction drew 32 bidders. Winning isn't a license: each applicant still has to prove it's suitable and file harm-reduction plans. Offshore casinos that didn't apply must stop serving New Zealand players from December 1, 2026, and the licensed market is expected to be fully running in 2027. Source: FairGambling

Gamdom goes offline after a hot-wallet breach

Gamdom took its whole platform offline on the evening of October 13 after, it said, a suspected disk failure led it to an unauthorized connection on one of its automation servers. On-chain tracker FairGambling saw Gamdom's hot wallets on five chains send more than $2.3 million to new wallets in about an hour. Founder Felix Roemer said on X that the breach cost just over $3 million and that the site would return after checks; an on-chain investigator cited by Cryptopolitan puts it nearer $4.2 million. Gamdom says user funds are safe, which hasn't been independently verified, and gamdom.com still showed a maintenance page on October 15. Our Gamdom safety page has what it means for players. Curacao shuts its hacked licensing portal for good

The Curacao Gaming Authority said its online licensing portal "will not be returned to service" after a breach it first disclosed on September 17; a researcher had used an account registered under a false identity since December 2025. More than 40,000 portal documents have been published, and Follow the Money's reporting on them identified roughly 800 owners behind nearly 650 Curacao-licensed companies. The regulator says existing licenses stay valid, but the digital seal that links to license certificates is affected, and it missed its own October 9 target for announcing interim arrangements. Until a replacement check exists, verify a Curacao license on the authority's site rather than through a casino's seal. Source: Bitcoin.com News

Appeals court suspends Stake's Brazil reprieve after one day

Brazil's Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region (TRF-3) suspended the injunction that let Stake keep operating during the national betting ban, a day after a São Paulo judge granted it. The Attorney General's Office argued that exempting one operator would create regulatory inequality, and the court agreed. Stake Brazil's site and app have been offline again since October 10. The ban itself, Provisional Measure 1394/2026, still faces three constitutional challenges at the Supreme Federal Court and needs Congress's approval to stay in force. Shuffle pays YouTuber Jack Doherty to stop posting for six months

Jack Doherty said on X that a contract he signed with crypto casino Shuffle.com bars him from posting online, and that he signed without reading all of its conditions. Shuffle's CEO Noah Dummett confirmed the deal is real, runs six months and was "money well spent," and said Doherty's lawyers are pushing to cancel it. The full contract and the payment haven't been made public. It's an unusual twist on the streamer sponsorships that drive much of crypto casino marketing; our streamers page covers how those deals work. Source: IBTimes UK

CFTC says casino games and sportsbook bets are not swaps

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued an interim final rule that writes into its regulations its long-held view that casino-style gambling, including sportsbook wagers and casino games, falls outside the federal definition of a swap. It takes effect when published in the Federal Register, with 30 days for comments. Decrypt reports the agency proposed the opposite treatment for prediction-market event contracts the same day, part of the running fight between federal regulators and states over who polices betting. Nothing here makes offshore crypto casinos legal in the US. Source: CFTC · Decrypt

Court lets Stake keep operating in Brazil until October 25

A São Paulo federal court granted Stake Brazil a temporary injunction against the national betting ban, letting it run its stake.bet.br site through October 25 while legal challenges continue. (An appeals court suspended this injunction on October 9; see above.) The judge refused Stake's request for protection until its license expires in December 2029, and the ruling covers only Stake: it can't launch new promotions or sign-up bonuses, and the wider ban stays in force. Brazil's online betting ban takes effect; licensed sites go dark

President Lula issued a provisional measure on September 25 banning online betting in Brazil, including the operators the Ministry of Finance had licensed since January 2025. Sites and apps were blocked from October 6, players had until October 5 to request withdrawals, and operators must credit any remaining balances to registered accounts between October 9 and 14. Congress still has to approve the measure for it to stay in force. For players, the practical point is simple: an offshore casino that still accepts Brazilians is not a legal alternative. Stake gets an Alberta license and plans an October 12 launch

Stake's Canadian arm received a license from Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis and expects to launch in the province on October 12, under an agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. Alberta opened a regulated online casino market in July, and operators that want a license had to leave the unregulated market by October 13. It is another step in Stake running locally licensed sites alongside its offshore stake.com. Source: Covers

Curaçao casinos must rewrite their player terms by October 8

The Curaçao Gaming Authority gave every B2C licensee until October 8, 2026 to bring their terms and conditions in line with a policy guideline it published in April. Players must actively accept the terms, and the terms must spell out withdrawal methods and processing times, limits on unwagered funds, dormant-account fees, and the operator's legal name and license details. Crypto casinos also have to explain what happens with lost or sanctioned wallets, delisted tokens and chain forks. Source: AGB

Nevis gives online gaming its own regulator

The Nevis Island Administration named Phil Jones as Regulator, Online Gaming from October 1, moving him off a combined banking and gaming brief. Licensees under the Online Gaming Ordinance (in force since May 2025) now deal with one official focused on their compliance, though the rules themselves are unchanged. The move comes ahead of a Caribbean Financial Action Task Force anti-money-laundering review, part of a wider push by smaller offshore licensing hubs to look more credible. Source: The Rio Times

Nigeria's Kaduna State declares Stake.com non-compliant over tax and registration

Kaduna State's revenue service said Stake.com is not recognised as a tax-registered gaming operator in the state and told it to register, file returns and pay outstanding taxes. It follows a 2024 Supreme Court ruling that gave Nigeria's states, not the federal government, authority over gaming. Source: Nigerian Tribune

Duelbits loses about $7 million from hot wallets, reopens two days later

Crypto casino Duelbits had hot wallets drained across four blockchains, with researchers pointing to a compromised private key rather than a smart contract bug. The co-founder said user funds were safe, and the site resumed deposits and withdrawals on September 27 with roughly $8 million reloaded, though it had not yet published a technical explanation. It is a reminder that hot-wallet security is operator-specific; our deposit and withdrawal guide covers why it can pay not to leave large balances on any casino. Source: The Cryptonomist

Leaked Curaçao files: Stake's license was granted while its ownership was still unclear

An investigation by Follow the Money and European media partners, based on files from the Curaçao Gaming Authority, reported that Stake's operator Medium Rare N.V. received its license while the regulator was still working out who actually controlled the company, and that ownership was unclear for hundreds of licensees. The CGA said unauthorized access to its portal had been contained. Stake had not publicly responded at the time of reporting. A license tells you a regulator signed off, not how hard it looked; our Gamdom vs Stake comparison covers how the two are licensed. Source: Casinos.com

South Korea blocks Polymarket over illegal gambling concerns

South Korea's communications standards commission ordered domestic access to the prediction market Polymarket blocked, ruling that it facilitates gambling under the Criminal Act. It rejected Polymarket's argument that its non-custodial, smart-contract structure put it outside local law, a sign regulators are looking past technical design when defining gambling. Galaxy Digital and Duel Casino clash over 230 ETH tied to the Coldcard exploit

Galaxy Digital's head of research publicly criticised Duel Casino for not freezing roughly 230 ETH that Galaxy says traces back to the Coldcard wallet exploit. Duel said it will not freeze user funds on a third party's claim alone and wants official confirmation, such as from law enforcement. The dispute shows how differently operators handle frozen-funds requests. Source: Bitcoin.com News

Curaçao sets out crypto rules for licensed casinos, with full compliance due June 2027

The Curaçao Gaming Authority, which licenses Stake, Roobet and many other crypto-first casinos, now requires wallet screening, transaction monitoring and segregation of player funds. Licensees had three months to file a crypto policy, six months for risk assessments, and must have blockchain analytics and wallet segregation fully in place by June 2027. Gamdom now holds an Anjouan license instead; our Gamdom trust and safety breakdown explains the difference. Source: iGaming Business

Why this matters for players

Crypto casino regulation is moving quickly, and licensing requirements that seemed settled a year ago are actively being rewritten. Keeping an eye on this doesn't require constant vigilance, but it's worth checking back here periodically, especially before making a large deposit or withdrawal, since compliance changes can affect processing times and account requirements. See our withdrawal times breakdown and deposit guide for how current policies affect day-to-day play, and the crypto casino glossary if a term in a story is unfamiliar.
